Miyazaki, Takahata and Studio Ghibli @ IFC Center, NYC

THIS. THIS is probably the best thing that could possibly happen to me in my lifetime, thus far. I could not be more excited to have the opportunity to see all the Miyazaki movies I was never able to see on a big screen… ON A BIG SCREEN.
I wasn’t born long enough ago to have been able to see the award-winning films like Princess Mononoke (1997) or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984), among other masterpieces, in theaters, BUT NOW I CAN AND I AM.
Tomorrow, I’m going to see see Nausicaa.
Next week, Spirited Away.
I’m doing this until January.
Mouse Frosted Chocolate- Donato Sansone
Fully hand drawn in pencil.
I haven’t posted in a WHILE. I haven’t had the energy or the time to peruse the internet like I used to.
BUT THIS. This is one of the more amazing animations I have posted in a long time. Beautiful and definitely take the time to watch at the artists’ instruction.
FULL SCREEN, HD, +HEADPHONES.
Enjoy!

From The Archives: In 1953, then-art student Art Clokey created a 3-1/2 minute stop-motion short called Gumbasia using techniques he learned from his teacher, former USC Film School Dean Slavko Vorkapić.
Clokey showed Gumbasia to movie producer Sam Engel, whose son Clokey happened to be tutoring at the time. Engel was so impressed that he offered to fund Clokey’s next endeavor, with the suggestion that he add clay figures.
That endeavor? A pilot for what would become one of the most beloved children’s television shows of all time — Gumby.
Art Clokey would have turned 90 today, had he not passed away in January of last year. To honor his memory, Google illustrated an interactive doodle which features Gumby and all his animated pals.
